Dermal Fillers

As we age, our skin naturally lose elasticity. As a result, our complexions appear thinner and drier with deeper under-eye circles and expression lines. We also experience bone loss over time, which contributes to a sagging appearance. These aging signs can be even more prominent due to environmental stress factors like smoking and excessive sun exposure.

Fortunately, advancements in cosmetic dermatology provide effective treatments to increase volume, firmness, and smoothness of your skin. Fillers are one of the effective options to consider for long-lasting results.

Facial Filler Benefits

Dermal fillers are injections that add volume and fullness to the face. This helps correct the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles and folds, including the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth and the lines from the mouth to the jawline.

You can also use fillers to define and plump the lips, giving a natural, more youthful appearance.

Filler Types

At Gold Coast Dermatology Center, we use several types of dermal fillers with unique formulation that targets different skin types and problem areas.

Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, Voluma, and Belotero

Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, Voluma, and Belotero are clear, smooth gel formulations made of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance the skin produces, which adds hydration and volume. By injecting hyaluronic acid into your skin, the formula instantly reduces moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. These injections can also add fullness to your lips.

Radisse

Radisse is also a popular filler, which contains calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel. The calcium microspheres are similar to minerals found naturally in the body. Over time, the microspheres and gel dissolve, leaving skin-firming collagen behind.

Sculptra Aesthetic

Sculptra Aesthetic is made from poly-L-lactic acid, which helps stimulate collagen growth. The main ingredient is a biocompatible, biodegradable synthetic material that physicians have used for decades. This injectable is different than the others because it stimulates natural collagen production. It takes about three sessions over a few months to see visible results.

Choosing the Right Filler for You

Every filler we use is FDA-approved and effective for improving the visible signs of aging. Choosing the right one for you depends on factors like the area you’d like to treat, how soon you want to see results, and your prior history of cosmetic treatments. After a comprehensive skincare exam, we’ll talk about your goals and help you choose the best filler to match.

What to Expect

During this minimally invasive treatment, we’ll inject the filler directly into the facial wrinkles or the lips. To avoid discomfort, we’ll provide a topical numbing cream and oral medication beforehand.

Filler Results

Depending on the filler type, you can see results instantly or within a few weeks of the procedure. The effects fade slowly, lasting six to twelve months for most patients. Since everyone is different, we’ll monitor your skin and determine the ideal interval between follow-up maintenance treatments. Alternatively, you may choose to discontinue treatments, which means the results with gradually disappear over time.

Possible Side Effects

As with all procedures that involve injections, there is a minor risk of infection. Most side effects are temporary and may include bruising, swelling, slight discomfort, nodules, or mild redness at the injection sites. Very rarely, some people experience scarring after filler injections. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not receive dermal fillers. People with severe allergies should also avoid dermal fillers.
